This is psychological judo - using Russia’s own economic problems to flatten RobSmithism.

The Financial Kill Shot:

Russia suspending bond auctions = Investors don’t trust Russia.

Sources: The Investor Standard + Interfax (Russian state media!) → Even Russia’s own press can’t hide the truth.

RobSmith's reaction: "This must be Western propaganda!" → But it’s Russian state media (Interfax is Russian state media).

::::That statement wasn't especially clear, so I'm glad that was corrected. Conservative, when trying assuming/suggesting what someone will reply, being clear that it is conjecture, is important.
::::Rob, citing a block being issued to Conservative, as evidence that he's a no-go whatchamacallit, is flimsy, when you are the one who issued that block. It is more flimsy when that block issuance went against the rules. We do not have the right to block our peers. By CP policy, Conservative is not allowed to block you, and you are not allowed to block Conservative. Similarly, I'm not allowed to block either of you. Flagrant disregard for polices like this don't help anything, especially when admins can just unblock themselves. That makes a block into a spiteful but ultimately pointless act, rather than what it should be--a protective measure to prevent bad people from doing bad things to CP content. --<font color="ForestGreen">DavidB4</font> (TALK) 00:39, August 13, 2026 (EDT)

The fact remains. {{quotebox|Has the United States ever suspended or delayed US Treasury debt bond sales or offerings?

U.S. Treasury Debt Sales Suspensions and Delays

Yes — the U.S. Treasury has, on multiple occasions, suspended or delayed debt sales when the federal debt limit (debt ceiling) is at risk of being breached. These actions are part of a broader set of measures to avoid default.

How it works

When the debt ceiling is reached, the Treasury can no longer issue new debt to finance obligations. To buy time, Congress may suspend the debt ceiling for a set period, allowing the Treasury to continue paying bills without raising the limit. Once the suspension ends, the debt limit is reset to the amount of debt accumulated during that period Congress.gov.

“Extraordinary Measures” and Debt Issuance Suspensions

In addition to suspending the debt ceiling, the Treasury can declare a Debt Issuance Suspension Period (DISP). This is a temporary halt to certain types of debt sales — particularly those that would push the debt limit over the ceiling — while using other resources to meet obligations Congress.gov.

Purpose: To avoid exceeding the debt limit without immediate congressional action.

Mechanism: The Treasury uses cash balances, special securities, and other trust fund resources to cover payments, then issues new debt to replenish those funds once the DISP ends Congress.gov+1.

Example: In January 2023, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen declared a DISP after the debt ceiling was reinstated, using extraordinary measures to cover obligations until the next legislative action Congress.gov.

Historical examples

2013 debt ceiling crisis: Congress suspended the debt ceiling for a set period, and the Treasury used extraordinary measures to avoid default Congress.gov.

2023 debt ceiling crisis: The Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 suspended the debt ceiling through January 1, 2025. After that date, the Treasury began using extraordinary measures to keep the government from defaulting The American Action Forum.

2011 debt ceiling crisis: Congress suspended the debt ceiling, and the Treasury used extraordinary measures to cover obligations RPC.
Key takeaway

The U.S. Treasury has not suspended all debt sales in a permanent sense, but it has temporarily halted certain issuances (especially those that would breach the debt ceiling) during debt limit episodes. These suspensions are part of a broader strategy to manage cash and debt obligations while Congress debates and acts on the debt ceiling Congress.gov+1.}}

::I was specifically referring to auctions being suspended due to weak demand (i.e., investors not showing up, insufficient bids at acceptable yields). Your attempt at an adequate rebuttal

::is entirely about debt-ceiling-driven suspensions (Debt Issuance Suspension Periods), which are a completely different mechanism — Treasury voluntarily halting certain issuances because of a statutory borrowing limit, not because investors didn't want the bonds. In every one of those DISP episodes (2011, 2013, 2023), Treasury auctions that did occur were still fully subscribed; there's no historical instance of a U.S. Treasury auction failing or being pulled for lack of demand. Bid-to-cover ratios have dipped in some auctions and yields have had to rise to clear the market, but a "failed auction" in the sense Russia experienced with its OFZ bonds has no U.S. precedent. :::It's not worth the time discussing with you how markets work, the function of interest rates, arbitrage, how Russian sanctions bar foreign investors (if Russia wanted to be beholden to foreign investors, i.e. Elon Musk & the Epstein Class after they looted $300 Billion in sovereign funds, etc), Chinese buyers, pension fund buyers, Russian oligarchs, etc etc. "Weak demand" means they aren't offering a high enough interest rate. And Russia, like the US, isn't raising interest rates, either. They need time to recalibrate. Meanwhile, the US, France, and Japanese bond markets are crashing, as well.
