Incorrectly named ship pages
July 13
* Barr should be named USS Barr (DE 576)
*:Moved --Ed Poor Talk 19:59, 11 July 2007 (EDT)
* Bancroft-II should be named USS Bancroft (DD-256)
*:Moved --Ed Poor Talk 20:00, 11 July 2007 (EDT)
* Bancroft-I should be named USS Bancroft (it existed prior to designations)
*:Moved --Ed Poor Talk 20:03, 11 July 2007 (EDT)
* etc...

Also note that many of these pages have a link to the index pages to a site rather than the link to the article itself (akin to giving the title of a news article but only linking to the website of the newspaper rather than the article itself - the search for it is left up to the reader).

Multiple attempts have been made to draw the attention of the contributors to these articles, but none have succeeded. --Mtur 19:57, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

:I moved the first three ships, as requested. Please make a list somewhere of all the other ships that need to be moved, and call my attention to it. --Ed Poor Talk 20:03, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

:: The longer list is found at - though only the first part of the move User:DeborahB./Contest and User:BethanyS/Contest. Do you want me to identify the name of the ship to be moved to also? What is the best way to make sure that the ships created by these users in the future are properly named? --Mtur 20:05, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

:Ah, a chance to kill two birds with one stone ...
:#Please talk to both ladies. You might want to offer to edit their subpages with the proper name of each ship. Then they can do the move, since they are sysops.
:#*Alternatively, you could ask Mr. Schlafly to grant you "move rights" on my recommendation.
:#After the backlog is cleared up, you can gently explain the naming convention.
:Sound like a plan? --Ed Poor Talk 20:29, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

:: Yes it does. I have added the issue in both of the talk pages for the contest lists in question. If nothing is comes from it, I will request move rights for articles. --Mtur 21:12, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

:: And both lists of moves have been posted to discussion pages. Some errors were found in the process (items getting listed twice, or items that were listed that would be ship names but not added because there was already material). --Mtur 22:46, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

:::Can we consider this issue to be closed, and there is no a project underway to address your concern?
:::: Might be useful to post a message on the user talk pages so that the sysops see the updates that need to be done. There is a significant difference between an orange on login and a blue instead of red link when updating the day's contest entries (would would likely be another batch of ships that are improperly named) --Mtur 23:03, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

:::I'm not asking whether the problem is solved, only whether resources have been mobilized; and a solution is on track. I'll check in again tomorrow or the next day. --Ed Poor Talk 23:13, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

:::: So far. Do realize that the user talk pages for these sysops are locked and I am unable to modify them. In the past, you have suggested that I ask you or another senior(?) sysop to communicate any requests that need be made to these individuals. --Mtur 23:17, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

: Got a one off by another editor - USS Kopara --> USS Kopara (AK-62) --Mtur 00:17, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

I propose moving converting this thread into a Conservapedia:Ship naming project, as it seems to be an on-going, non-urgent task. --Ed Poor Talk 09:49, 13 July 2007 (EDT)
: Once these ships are properly named, it won't be. The pages created by for the USS Arizona (BB-39) and USS Houston (CA-30) were done correctly. It is important that the people contributing substantive material to this realize the correct naming scheme and, if possible, set forward to correct it to set the proper example for others to follow. The degree of urgency is only a matter of "There is a big mess there now, and this is what it takes to clean it up." I would rather not have to spend another two hours going through and getting the correct names for the ships again. It is not something that needs to be done now, but it needs to be done before another push of pages is done for the material. ---Mtur 12:21, 13 July 2007 (EDT)

: Between my last edit and now, there are about another 50 ship name articles out there that are not correctly named. I hope that this can get addressed sooner than later because there are several thousand ship names out there that have yet to be added. It would be much easier to address this now and have the correct names going forward rather than having to have a sysop go through and do several thousand page moves. --Mtur 15:28, 13 July 2007 (EDT)
