'''Decimalisation''' is the process of changing to a [[decimal]] system of [[measurement]]; the term is generally applied to the change of a national currency to a decimal system, as in the [[United Kingdom]], when on 15 February 1971 the [[currency]] system was changed from the 'pounds, shillings and pence' (L.s.d.) system of 12 pence to one [[shilling]], and twenty shillings to one [[pound]] (i.e. 24o pence to one pound), to a decimal system of one hundred [[new]] pence to one pound.
