'''Frederik Willem de Klerk''', or F.W. as most came to call him, was the last [[apartheid]] era President of [[South Africa]]. He held office from September 1989 to May 1994, oversaw the first omni-racial national elections, and was succeeded in office by [[Nelson Mandela]], with whom he shared the [[Nobel Peace Prize]] awarded in 1993.
