:[[American Exceptionalism]] has nothing to do with elitism.  Typically, the people who look down their noses at American Exceptionalism are themselves elitists.  Left wing professoriate in academe, movie stars, and certain politicians(Obama is one, for example) top the list of holding this viewpoint - all of which are the biggest elitist snobs on the planet.
