Channel 4, founded by Act of Parliament in 1982, is the United Kingdom's commercially funded public service television broadcaster. The channel was initially created as a subsidiary of the IBA under the Broadcasting Act 1981, and has since been transferred to a new company called the Channel Four Television Corporation in 1990. The corporation also has offshoot channels such as Film4 (which commissions its own high quality films) E4 and More4.
