Specialized organs in mammals that produce milk to nourish the young.[1] Functional glands organs are generally found in females, although in some species (such as some bats, some goats) males also are able to lactate using these glands. Mammary glands are a specialised evolution of sweat glands - an intermediate stage can be seen in monotremes, a class split from early mammals before the evolution of true mammary glands which nourish their young from unmodified sweat glands.
