Portrait of Zao Wou-Ki.

Zao Wou-Ki (1920 – 2013) was a Chinese-French abstract painter. In his mid-thirties, he lived in Paris for a decade. Zao's works, were influenced by Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Paul Cézanne and the New York Abstract Expressionists.

Zao's artworks are "an exemplary reconciliation of Chinese and European aesthetics, in which the language of modern Western abstraction is enriched by a Chinese sensibility rooted in the past." [1]

Zao was a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.
