Stanley Kubrick (1928 – 1999) was an American film director, producer and screenwriter. Throughout most of his career, he lived and worked in England. His films were critically acclaimed but often controversial. He was noted for his perfectionism, putting his actors through dozens of takes of a scene before being satisfied with the result.[1]
Kubrick’s most well-known films include:
- Spartacus (1960)
- Lolita (1962)
- Dr. Strangelove (1964)
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
- A Clockwork Orange (1971)
- Barry Lyndon (1975)
- The Shining (1980)
- Full Metal Jacket (1987)
- Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Kubrick died shortly after directing Eyes Wide Shut and did not see its mainstream release.
Three of his films received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, and he was nominated for four Oscars for directing and five for screenwriting.[2]
