Paul Dundes Wolfowitz (b. December 22, 1943) is an American academic, neoconservative thinker and political figure; he was a prominent architect of the foreign policy of the George W. Bush administration known as the Bush Doctrine, which resulted in the Iraq War. Once the Deputy Secretary of Defense in the Bush administration, he is currently the President of the World Bank. Despite being a close ally of the Bush administration, Paul Wolfowitz is actually a registered Democrat. Wolfowitz described himself as a "Scoop Jackson Republican".
Other nations have been critical of Wolfowitz, and the criticisms intensified to calls for his ouster upon disclosure that in April of 2007 he allegedly obtained a large pay raise and promotion for his girlfriend, Shaha Ali Riza, a former bank official.[1] As of April 13, 2007, there were demands for his resignation, including a demand by Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.[2]
