'Penguin Books' is a publisher based in the United Kingdom and founded in 1935. Penguin innovated within the traditional publishing industry in the 1930s by being the first company to produce inexpensive yet high quality, paperbacks sold through Woolworths and other dime stores.[1]
Since 2013, Penguin Books is now part of the worldwide Penguin Random House, a massive conglomerate which was created in 2013 through the merger of the two publishers.[2] It was formerly called Penguin Group.
Plume Publishing is part of Penguin.
