Crying in One's Beer is an idiom that refers, usually in a rather insulting or unsympathetic way, to a person feeling sorry for himself, as in "Pay no attention to him; he's just crying in his beer."

A similar but sympathetic expression for this is "crying on one's shoulder", as in "she cried on my shoulder for two hours after her boyfriend broke up with her."
