Daniel Ortega (b. 1945) came to power by overthrowing the Somoza dynasty. [1] He was defeated in an election for the Presidency of Nicaragua by Violeta Chamorro in 1990. He became president of Nicaragua again after winning the election held on 5th November 2006.
He is a devout catholic.[Citation Needed]
