If the umpire and/or media allowed the bad call to go unchallenged because of liberal favoritism, the implication is that the Yankees were preferred over the (Brooklyn) Dodgers. Some explanation of why the Dodgers would have been seen as more conservative in 1956 would be helpful to clarify this example.
