The Altamont Free Concert, also known as Altamont Speedway Free Festival or Woodstock West, was an event that effectively brought the 60's era to an end.[1][2] The event is known for left wing violence, and the death of Meredith Hunter.
Musical Acts
The artists and groups who performed included: The Rolling Stones, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Crosby, Stills and Nash.
American Pie
Parts of the song American Pie are seen as a euphemism for the violence that was seen at Altamont, and the results of the New Left. As a play of McLean's song, some have said that Altamont marks The Day the '60s Died.[3][4]
