Samuel Barber (1910-1981) was a American composer of classical music. He is best known for one movement of a two movement piece, which is simply known as the "Adagio for Strings", after its tempo and intrumentation. It is often quoted in films, when a sad, slow feeling is desired. It is used quite effectively for several minutes near the end of Platoon.
