The Battle of Delium in 424 B.C. was part of the Second Peloponnesian War between the Greek city states of Athens and Sparta. The Athenians were on a roll having won consecutive battles at Pylos and Sphacteria. They planned convergent attacks against Boeotia as they had tried in 426 B.C., but once again were unsuccessful after the Theban general Pagondas defeated the Athenian army under Hippocrates, who was killed.
