The''' Western Front''' was a narrow strip of land between [[Belgium]] and [[France]] where the [[Allies]] on one side and the [[Germans]] on the other dug a complex network trenches during [[World War I]]. At that point, the war ground to a bloody an protracted  stalemate.  After [[Russia]] withdrew from the War, the [[Germans]] unleashed all their troops on the western front, and it appeared they would win easily. But [[American]] troops came to the front, and in the [[Second Battle of the Marne]], the Allies started winning.  Soon afterward, the Great War ended.

At that point, the war ground to a bloody and protracted  stalemate.  After [[Russia]] withdrew from the War following the [[October revolution]], the [[Germans]] unleashed all of their troops on the western front, and it appeared they would win, before grinding to a halt after oustripping their supply lines. In December 1917, [[American]] troops came to the front, and in the [[Second Battle of the Marne]], the Allies started decisively winning ground.  Soon afterward, the Great War ended.
