Lech Kaczyński was the president of Poland, inaugurated 23 December 2005 until his death on April 10, 2010. Kaczyński was born in Warsaw in 1949. He was educated in law at Warsaw University. He was involved with the Solidarity movement in the late 1980s. He served as the mayor of Warsaw from 2002 until he was elected president.[1] His identical twin brother, Jarosław, was Prime Minister of Poland from July 2006 to November 2007.

Kaczynski represented the Law and Justice party, the right-wing conservative party of Poland. He was a conservative Christian who strongly supported putting Christian values in the European Union constitution.[2] His government was pro-American and contributed soldiers to the War in Iraq.[3] The Kaczyński administration supported a total ban on abortion, a total ban on homosexual propaganda in schools, and the building of American anti-nuclear missile shields on Polish soil.[Citation Needed]
