A stove is a piece of equipment which uses the application of heat to cook food; compare heater.
The evolution of the stove is an excellent example of collaboration and human ingenuity. Cooking began over an open fire. To conserve fuel and to prevent the flames being blown out or rained upon, people invented cooking pits and ovens.
In the 1940s, radar technicians pioneered a new kind of cooking when they discovered they could heat up food exposed to microwave radiation. Now, the microwave oven is cheaper to purchase than the gas range.
