Kid Creole (real name - August Darnell) is a pop singer who found greatest success in the 1980s, fronting his band Kid Creole and the Coconuts. The group's biggest hit was Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy, which reached number 2 in the United Kingdom in 1982.
Kid Creole's music was typically upbeat, with Latin and Calypso influences. His good-time sound sometime created an unusual contrast with his surprisingly hard-hitting subject matter: Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy is about a surrogate father breaking the news of his daughter's illegitimacy to her; and Stool Pigeon is about a police informer.
