Terry Gilliam is an animator and film director. His first success was as a member of the Monty Python team; while the other five members wrote and performed comic sketches, Gilliam created the distinctive animations that punctuated the Pythons' work. Gilliam's first work as a feature film director was on Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975),[1] and when the team disbanded, he pursued film directing as a career.
Gilliam's films are characterised by their imaginative, often fairytale themes and elaborate set design. They include The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Brothers Grimm, Twelve Monkeys and Time Bandits. Gilliam also unsuccessfully tried to make a film of Don Quixote, eventually giving up and chronicling his disastrous efforts in the documentary Lost in La Mancha (2002).[2]
