The Standard Oil Company was an oil company in the late 1800s through when it was broken up by Teddy Roosevelt in 1911. John D. Rockefeller was the owner of the company, and it made him the richest man in history. The company was known for its unscrupulous business practices.

After the breakup, sevaral companies spawned off of Standard Oil. Some of the more notable ones are listed here:
