Fog is a kind of mist or cloud that is at ground level. (Or sometimes, at sea level, this is why ships are sometimes equipped with foghorns to clear the fog in front of them.) The word fog or foggy is also used metaphorically to describe theories which are vague and unclear, as if in a real-world fog or mist. The concept of fog of war is also related.

The astronomical word nebula is Greek for "fog".[1]
