East Lothian is one of Scotland's 32 local (unitary) council areas. It lies to the east of Edinburgh and Midlothian, and to the north of Borders. The administrative capital is Haddington (and it was formerly known as Haddingtonshire).

- Aberlady Bay, a vast tidal mudflat and home no numerous species of rare birds, including waders, dippers, and doggers.

- Dirleton Castle, the best preserved Saxon Motte and Baily castle north of the Tyne
- Museum of Flight, East Fortune, home of Concorde and the monument to the failed Scottish space program of the 1970s (including the remains of the 'Big Jessie' rocket)
