Rudolf Clausius (1822–1888) was a German physicist and mathematician who discovered [[entropy]] in 1865 and named it.  His paper in 1850 in thermodynamics was the first statement of the concept of the second law of thermodynamics.  He also restated the Carnot cycle in a more rigorous manner.
