A hacker is someone with skills in developing computer software or hardware. Hackers enjoy modifying these for extra functionality and/or performance. They are often willing to do it for the sheer joy of it, or merely to receive the admiration and respect of their peers.
Hackers resent being lumped in with security crackers, however such people can be both.
