Kirriemuir

Kirriemuir is a market town and administtrative centre in Angus, eastern Scotland. It was founded in the fifteenth century as a baronial burgh. Its industry was formerly based on the manufacture of jute sacking, an activity strongly allied to the local Tayside potato growing economy. J.M.Barrie, author of Peter Pan, was born in Kirriemuir and described it as a "wee red toonie". The town's name is widely known because of the traditional Scottish folk air The Ball of Kirriemuir, celebrating the beauty and virtue of Scottish womanhood.
