Windows Longhorn was the code name for both a cancelled version of Windows, and Windows Vista. The first developer builds were compiled sometime around 2002-2003, however, in August of 2004, Microsoft announced that Windows Longhorn would be scrapped, and a new project would begin under the longhorn name.[1]
