Jabez is a minor character mentioned only once in I Chronicles 4:9-11.[1]
I Chronicles 4:10 mentions a prayer he made, asking to be blessed and to "enlarge my coast" (expand his territory), which was honored. As such, it gained popularity within the Prosperity Gospel (including a book by Bruce Wilkinson on the subject), and was just as routinely condemned by those who oppose the Prosperity Gospel.
- ↑ Another Jabez, this time the name of a place, also exists at I Chronicles 2:55; it is not known if the place was named for this character or another.
