Hubert Schlafly (St Louis, 1919 – Stamford, Connecticut, 2011) was an American engineer who co-invented the teleprompter in 1948 when he was director of television research for 20th Century Fox. He is also credited with spearheading the movement towards satellite television within the industry. Schlafly graduated from the University of Notre Dame.

Schlafly with two colleagues, Barton and Kahn, started their own company, the TelePrompTer Corporation, and sold their first production model to CBS in 1950.

In 2008, Schlafly was inducted into the Cable Television Hall of Fame.
