The Chicago Tribune has been the daily leading newspaper in Chicago, Illinois for decades, featuring an increasingly liberal point-of-view in recent years.[1] The Tribune endorsed a Democratic candidate for president for the first time in 2008, when it endorsed Barack Obama.[2]

Its lengthy history predates the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.[3] The Tribune was an early and active supporter of Abraham Lincoln.
