'''''Master and Commander''''' is the first novel in the Aubrey-Maturin series of historical novels by [[Patrick O'Brian]]. First published in 1969, it has never been out of print and was followed by another twenty novels in the series.
It is rated #31 in Conservapedia's [[Essay:Greatest Conservative Novels|Greatest Conservative Novels]], despite having one character, Stephen Maturin, who is a proto-[[Darwinist]].
