The RPG-7 (Russian РПГ-7) is a handheld anti-tank grenade launcher, developed by the Soviet Union in 1961. It is the most widely produced grenade launcher in history, with several million in circulation. In this case, RPG stands for Ruchnoy Protivotankoviy Granatomet (реактивный противотанковый гранатомёт), which literally means "a handheld anti-tank grenade launcher".[1]
The RPG-7 has seen action in most major conflicts fought since 1961. It has been used by both terrorist and paramilitary forces, and official military forces.
The RPG-7 has a nominal range of 900 meters, but is notorious for being quite inaccurate unless in the hands of a trained operator. The normal kill radius around the warhead is about 10 meters in every direction. Fully loaded, the RPG-7 weighs about 15 lbs.[2]
