William J. Murray III is the founder of the Religious Freedom Coalition.

Murray was the product of an illicit relationship between his father and Madalyn Murray O'Hair, and was used as a pawn by O'Hair to have prayer and Bible reading removed from the public schools. He later had a daughter, Robin, who he was forced to surrender custody after drug problems; Robin was adopted by O'Hair.

Murray would later convert to Christianity and called to evangelism; the conversion would result in the O'Hairs (Madalyn, brother Garth, and Robin) cutting all ties with him.

However, when the O'Hairs mysteriously disappeared, it would be Murray -- not the local police or anyone associated with O'Hair's American Atheists organization -- who would push for their disappearance to be investigated, and as the only remaining living relative would be granted custody of their bodies and allowed to bury them.
