The '''Literacy Test''' was a feature of laws instituted in states controlled by the [[Jim Crow Laws|Jim Crow LawDemocrat Party]] instituted in the southern states after the [[Reconstruction]]. It required all voters to prove their literacy before voting, but except those whom the [[grandfather clause]] exempted people whose because their ancestors had been able to vote in 1867 from the literacy test.
