Prince Edward Island was founded by the British in 1758 and originally named St John's Island]. The capital of Prince Edward Island is Charlottetown and PEI entered confederation in 1873. It has a total area of 5660km2. The population in 1991 was 129,795 for 0.5% of the national total.
