Along with Chauvin, officers Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane were involved in some way in Floyd's murder and are set to be charged in 2022. While there had been anti cop times in period before such as Ferguson George Floyd's murder brought police brutality to the forefront of the American public, with the country rapidly becoming more aware of the corrupt nature of policing.

In the ensuing violence, [[Black Lives Matter]] protesters murdered two [[Black]] teenagers in Seattle's [[Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone]],<ref>https://www.chron.com/news/article/1-killed-in-shooting-at-Seattle-s-occupied-15373623.php</ref> Black policemen in [[St. Louis]] and [[Oakland]].<ref>https://thefederalist.com/2020/06/05/while-defending-rioters-the-media-ignores-slain-black-police-officers/</ref> an 8 year old Black girl in [[Atlanta]] and an African American infant in [[New York]].

The City of Minneapolis settled a wrongful death lawsuit with Floyd's family for $27 million. Chauvin was convicted on two counts of murder and one count of manslaughter on April 20, 2021 and on June 25, 2021 was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison. The trial of the other three officers at the scene of his death is scheduled to begin on March 7, 2022.
