On February 5, 2020 in preparing for the  South Carolina primary,  Buttigieg tweeted that Trayvon Martin would have been 25 today," "How many 25th birthdays have been stolen from us by [[white supremacy]], gun violence, prejudice, and fear?," thereby inferring that the death of  Trayvon Martin was due to such.  However, in response, Jack Cashill of The American Thinker responded, "Far from being a white supremacist, the Hispanic Zimmerman was a civil rights activist, an Obama-supporter, and mentor to two black teens at the time Trayvon Martin attacked him.  The evidence in Zimmerman's defense was overwhelming, which is why he was acquitted."<ref> Jack Cashill, February 7, 2020. In their use of race baiting, liberals will purposely slight African-American Republicans on character and old stereotypes, hypocritically employing racism themselves in doing so. Notable politicians and judges, such as [[Michael Steele]] and [[Clarence Thomas]] have been maliciously attacked in this way.  In a Washington Times article, Michael Steele of Maryland "....pelting him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance, calling him an 'Uncle Tom' and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log.
