Paula Hawkins (1927-2009) was elected to the U.S. Senate as a Republican representing Florida as part of the landslide victory of President Ronald Reagan in 1980.
She had a strongly conservative voting record as a senator. In 1986, Democrat Florida Governor Bob Graham defeated her for re-election as the Democrats regained control of the U.S. Senate.
