It's hard to say.  I toyed with a couple of different edits, but I wasn't satisfied with the way it read.  Basically we want people to understand that the Roman Empire, as it is usually defined, came to an end and that is the cut off point in the history books.  Romulus is considered the last Roman Emperor.  The Byzantine Empire, while being created by Rome, was basically Greek, not Roman, and except for a very brief period, would never again encompass Rome.  So it's pretty difficult to get wording that does all of that justice.
