The gray wolf (Canis lupus) is the ancestor of the domestic dog. Since even in the evolutionary view this is considered to have occurred in a relatively short time frame (as little as 15,000 years ago) this is one area where the views of [[YEC|Young earth creationists]] and evolutionists generally overlap.

==Wolves in culture==
Wolves, until recently, were feared, and often shot on sight. This is due to the fact that wolves competed with early humans for prey, such as deer, and, more recently, killing pets and livestock. While there are many stories of wolves killing humans, wolf attacks are extremely rare; no fatalities have occured in North America from a healthy (non-rabid), wild wolf.
