William J. Murray III is the founder of the Religious Freedom Coalition.
Murray was the product of an illicit relationship between his father and Madalyn Murray O'Hair and was used as a pawn by O'Hair to have prayer and Bible reading removed from the public schools. He later had a daughter, Robin, who he was forced to surrender custody after drug problems; Robin was adopted by O'Hair.
Murray would later convert to Christianity and called to evangelism; the conversion would result in the O'Hairs (Madalyn, half-brother Jon Garth, and Robin) cutting all ties with him.
However, when the O'Hairs mysteriously disappeared (and later found to have been murdered), it would be Murray -- not the local police or anyone associated with O'Hair's American Atheists organization -- who would push for their disappearance to be investigated, and as the closest living relative would be granted custody of their remains and allowed to bury them.
