Chevy Van is a popular song released by Sammy Johns in 1973, from his debut album also titled Sammy Johns. It would reach #5 on the pop charts, his only top 10 hit.
The song struck a chord with the public due to its "free love" message and its ties to the "vansploitation" films of the 1970s (films that prominently featured a van as essential to the film's plot). In it, a singer (singing in first person) picks up an attractive female who is hitchhiking, and ultimately the two engage in sexual intercourse. Afterwards, he drops her off in a small town with "a dirt road Main Street" that was "so small, you could throw a rock from end to end", and laments that he "won't be passing through again".
