Cape Horn is a promontory at the southern tip of South America, located on Isla Hornos, a small island considered to be part of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. It was named in 1616 after Hoorn, the Dutch home town of Willem Cornelisz Schouten one of the captains of an expedition looking for a route between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans without using the treacherous Strait of Magellan.
