Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, currently part of France.
It was conquered by the Romans in 237 BC - it has had a checquered history of occupation, finding itself variously under Vandal, Byzantine, Arab and Genoese control, finally being sold to France in 1768.
By far its most famous native was Napoleon.
