A former officer of the [[14th Waffen SS Galicia Division]] named Yaroslav Hunka was also invited to attend the address. Speaker Rota praised Hunka as a “Canadian hero” for fighting against the [[Soviet Union]], which was an ally of Canada, the United States, and the British Commonwealth during [[World War II]]. The [[Allies of World War II]], including Canada, were fighting the armed forces of [[Nazi Germany]], of which the Hunka and the [[14th SS Galicia Division]] were part. More than 45,000 Canadians were killed fighting Nazi forces.
