A Black woman posted an observation on [[social media]], noting that the media circus surrounding Floyd's death, compared to other tragic deaths of Black Americans, most of which have received far less media coverage, was likely political due to the time frame in which the hysteria took place, namely the months leading up to the 2020 U.S. presidential election:
