The Battle of Cnidus took place during a war between Sparta and Persia from 400 B.C. to 387 B.C. The battle took place in 394 B.C. when Athens had allied with Persia to contain the Spartan threat. In the naval battle, the combined Athenian-Persian fleet under Conon destroyed the Spartan fleet under Peisander, brother-in-law of Lysander. The action took place off Cnidus near Rhodes. Peisander was killed.
