9-11 refers to a terrorist attack on the the United States of America that occurred on September 11, 2001. This was the catalyst resulting in the War on Terror. 2,973 innocent people were killed by 19 terrorist who hijacked 4 commercial airliners. These planes were then crashed into the two World Trade Center towers New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, DC and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The 2 World Trade Center towers (buildings 1 and 2) collapsed shortly after being struck by the hijacked airliners, leading to most of the fatalities suffered in the attacks, and causing severe damage to the area of lower Manhattan surrounding the World Trade Center. Later in the day, World Trade Center building 7 collapsed due to damage caused by the collapse of buildings 1 and 2.
